No sport has grown as fast as padel in The Netherlands. Padel courts are appearing in the furthest corners of the country and its popularity has only grown due to corona. So in June 2020 there were 150 places with padel courts in the whole country. By the end of 2021 that had grown to 188. In total, you can find more than a thousand padel courts. Most padel courts are found at tennis clubs, but there are some padel-specific locations too. You find these mostly in the big cities. There are 5 in Amsterdam, 6 in Utrecht, 8 in The Hague and a further 6 in Eindhoven. You can fortunately find them in smaller places too if you’re looking for a padel court in Waddinxveen, Den Dungen, Vught or Liempde.
Read here, in the Algemeen Dagblad newspaper (in Dutch), how the huge uptake in padel which has taken place in Rotterdam too has brought about big changes. Padel is seen as a perfect family outing and schools are getting in on the action too. The planned opening of 6 new padel courts will still take a while, but due to high demand, the location has already opened its doors for special events
Making padel courts more sustainable
Fortunately, it is possible to build and rebuild padel courts in a relatively sustainable manner. The great thing about such a new sport is that it’s much easier for us now to take all the developments in account. Sustainability and CO2 reduction are themes that are becoming increasingly important worldwide. Padelverlichting’s aim is also to ensure that sustainable courts become the norm. Therefore, we work predominantly with parts made in Europe which do have to be flown in from abroad.
Our contribution: horizontal LED lighting
LED lighting has been the norm for some time for sustainable light sources. It’s also important that parts last a long time before requiring maintenance or replacement. In order to light padel courts properly for a long time, it’s important to choose the right LED fixtures. We have developed special LED fixtures designed specifically for padel courts. Furthermore, the horizontal siting and the asymmetrical lens mean that there’s less light nuisance in the surrounding area, so that local residents and flora and fauna are less troubled by light pollution.
