Rules and requirements for KNLTB Padel courts

Brightness requirements

The KNLTB has established various lighting standards for different situations. The most important of these is the horizontal illuminance (lux). Furthermore, they look at uniformity, glare rating and colour rendering. The KNLTB recommends that outdoor padel and tennis courts are lit to a minimum illuminance of 300 lux. This is a requirement for official KNLTB matches. However, a minimum illuminance of 500 lux is recommended for the best playing experience. For additional information on mandatory performance requirements please consult  this page by the KNLTB. Please see the table with an overview of the different requirements below.

Environmental permits

It is mandatory to obtain an environmental permit prior to building a padel court. The municipality makes check for specific conditions, such as location. Therefore, it is always essential to discuss rules and requirements with the municipality. It is also important to consult with local residents. Particularly seeing that padel has received some bad press due to noise and light pollution.

If your padel courts are located in the vicinity of a built-up area, local residents are often bothered by these problems. Protect yourself from this. It’s possible to carry out research into noise and /or light pollution (read more about it here). Of course, the easiest solution is to install lighting that doesn’t cause light pollution. Padelverlichting’s lighting automatically meets the KNLTB’s requirements for padel. These fixtures have been specifically developed with the intention of avoiding light nuisance in the surrounding area. Not only for local residents, but for players and flora and fauna too. Therefore, by using our lighting you will be protected in advance from having to make changes to meet legal or KNLTB requirements.
